Red Snapper Season is Back for 2025!

Changes are coming to Alabama’s Red Snapper season in 2025.
The Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (ADCNR) recently announced a major adjustment: from May 23 through June 30 at 11:59 a.m., the season will be open seven days a week instead of the traditional four-day weekend schedule. After June 30, beginning the weekend of July 4, the season will revert to the four-day weekend format until the annual quota is met.
Since 2017, Alabama’s Red Snapper season has followed a four-day weekend structure. However, after a year of discussions between the ADCNR’s Marine Resources Division and local fishermen, officials decided to extend the daily availability of the season during peak fishing months.
ADCNR Commissioner Chris Blankenship emphasized that the change aims to give anglers more access to prime fishing opportunities.
“Under state management, we can tailor the red snapper season to better suit Alabama’s anglers,” said Blankenship. “For 2025, we’re opening the season for the entire month of June, providing private anglers and state-licensed charter boats with greater opportunities at the height of the season. We anticipate a fantastic red snapper season, with expanded chances to fish well into early summer and possibly into the fall.”
